What is the history of flower arrangement?

The Egyptians used plant material for decorative purposes as far back as 2,500 B.C. as shown in stone carvings... During Greek and Roman eras, flowers were made into wreaths and garlands, but hardly ever planted in pots... The byzatine Empire began construction flower bundles in cone shapes, and placing them in urns and chalices. These were then decorated with ribbons and fruit. After the fall of the Romans there is not much evidence of arrangment in the Dark ages, as there was not much time for other activites... During the Italian Rennaisance the art of floral design was reborn and containers of venetian glass, marble, and bronze were used to place flowers in.

A book was written in 1633 by P. Giovanni Battista and is called Sienas’ Flora - overo cultura di fiori about the culture of flowers and gardens and flower decoration.
